Student, Staff & School Management
SEMIS supports countries to improve education planning and delivery with a specially designed suite of tools for individual-level student and staff data.
Manage student, staff, and school data – all in one app!
SEMIS is a free and open-source student-staff-school app developed through collaboration with Ministries of Education in the global south. It was designed with and for countries to fulfill core requirements for enrolling and managing students and staff. With SEMIS, you can:
- Take attendance quickly and intuitively, both on the web and on Android mobile devices in online and offline mode.
- Manage student progress including promotion, repetition, transfer, graduation processes, and learning assessment data.Â
- Manage staff, including new teacher registration, assigning unique identifiers, and coordinating posting at regional and national levels.
- Add customization to monitor teacher appraisals, identify professional development needs, and more.Â
- Extend SEMIS to support advanced features like payroll management or timetable scheduling, or integrate other data sources and digital tools.
Benefits of using SEMIS
- Decentralizes education data, enabling ministries to access granular and aggregated data to support decision-making processes from the central office all the way down to the school level.Â
- User-friendly data collection and analysis for individual-level data on learners and staff throughout their entire academic experience.
- Easy integration with existing education data systems.
- Free and open source, with no subscription or license fees.
- Proven DHIS2 technology, continuously refined and improved through the global HISP network.
Getting started with SEMIS
HISP offers support to ministries and other local stakeholders in installing, configuring and customizing SEMIS to meet local needs. Depending on the project scope, the size of the school population, and the number of people to be trained, this process can take up to three months. While the SEMIS software is free, some technical infrastructure is required to use it, including a secure central server, computers and/or Android mobile devices, and periodic internet connectivity for data uploads. Post-launch, HISP groups provide technical support, address any issues, gather feedback and make necessary system adjustments.
