GPE KIX offers extension to HISP project

The Global Partnership for Education’s Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX) is extending its Data Use Innovations project in The Gambia, Uganda, and Togo, transforming education data management. GPE KIX is a platform dedicated to advancing global education through knowledge and innovation exchange. In collaboration with HISP, this initiative harnesses DHIS2 to create adaptable Education Management Information Systems (EMIS), enabling informed decision-making and improved educational planning. Having worked with The Gambia, Togo, and Uganda for the past three years, the project has enabled the transition from aggregate to individual learner data, facilitated data-driven decision-making at the district level, and engaged education communities. Capacity-building workshops were conducted, forging partnerships with ministries, UNESCO, UNICEF, and the World Bank. The project also explored Education in Emergencies data landscape and proposed the establishment of an innovation lab for local apps that can be installed on top of DHIS2 for increased functionalities.

The upcoming costed extension will expand the project’s reach to Sierra Leone, eSwatini, and Mozambique, further enhancing data-driven education and fostering international collaboration across the region. The project seeks to deepen district-level data utilization, empower district managers, and engage traditional leaders. Collaboration with local universities will enhance data systems, and the project will support PhD candidates and Masters students focusing on data-driven decision-making. The extension fosters cross-country learning and documentation of best practices, contributing to data-driven education improvements.
